CREW 532

What are you doing this weekend? Are you doing chores, watching t.v., or maybe doing homework? Now, what do you wish you were doing? Let's try rock climbing, snow skiing, scuba diving, and caving. Any interest there? How about backpacking, white-water rafting, horseback riding, kayaking, Sailing, and facing freezing temperatures and to-the-death snowball fights in Alaska? No luck yet? You definitely wouldn't want to be in Venturing. Go ahead, Mister or Miss Couch Potato. Snuggle up with your trusty potato chips and t.v. remote. We might even send you a post card.

Want to know more? In May of 2005, six outdoorsy high schoolers, an adventurous college kid, and a couple of out-of-their-minds adults met in a boxy Sunday school room to start Venturing Crew 532. Since then, we’ve broken out of the box, added lots of new members, and already done or started planning all of the above activities and more. We the Crew (not our adult advisors, though we love them J) brainstorm, vote for, and plan monthly activities that support the traits in our motto (service, leadership, adventure, character, opportunity, and fun – cleverly abbreviated SLACOF). Crew meetings are held in the second-floor youth room of Helena United Methodist Church (Helena, AL) and are generally on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month (subject to change with activity scheduling).
